I have painted and sold the original oil artwork during the Noordwijk Painting Festival in 2012 in the Netherlands. It’s showing poppies (klaprozen in Dutch) that grow close to the dunes at the North Sea coast of Holland. The area is a beautiful nature reserve. I tried to convey the details of the grass and leaves, while keeping them a muted green, so that they contrast well with the crimson red of the flower petals. A pale blue sky is the primary contrast, and a light purple coastal flower rounds up the composition.

The dabbled paint is inspired by garden paintings of Gustav Klimt. The flat tones of the vegetation (while still highly detailed) are inspired by the art of Andrew Wyeth.
