Picked up the ol’ oil tubes again to jot down a feeling that just needed colors. I have a sort of mild synesthesia – and when an emotion is intense it gives me a visual experience of shapes and colors.

It doesn’t happen too often, and it’s hard to pin down what one sees in a moment. Also, the effect isn’t static, which I can’t capture in an oil painting (the white stripes where moving back and forth). But there is a consistency about what sense maps to another. I described for example in earlier posts which colors map to which numbers in my head.

If you find this interesting, you might like the artworks by Melissa McCracken. She is painting visuals she experiences when listening to music.
