Another painting from the Oudekerk in Amsterdam. I finally have time to do these things – and actually without rushing it too much. With this pillar I’m still trying to get a feel for it, before starting more complex parts of the building.
This coming Monday a German TV team will film me there for their travel show. They will also visit me at home – so I’ll be busy all this weekend cleaning up, so it looks respectable. I’m really curious what they will do.

First off: The events the last weekends were a lot of fun. I will post an update as soon as I can show the paintings.
And now to the portrait from last Friday. This time Kaisa, another good friend of mine. I’m glad she allowed me to paint her before she leaves to the other side of the world. Maroesja took a photo of me in action – shortly before the picture is done.

Another portrait – it got a bit more of the real feel that I am looking for, while still not seeming like a photo. Although the three hour sessions don’t leave me with enough time to measure exactly (leaving some inaccuracies there), they teach me how to work effectively. And it does add a loose touch, that I would not reach when having unlimited time.
I like that – but I still also want to do longer sessions. That would help me with studying more careful and really to think about each step. So I will start to seriously look for an atelier, so that I can plan this all myself.

I thought maybe it is interesting to show my palette for this one – so here is a photo of the state after half an hour. As you can see, I mix all major colors before I start painting. I don’t know anyone else doing it like that, but I think it makes sense. This way one can see all the value relationships before painting the shapes, saving me the pain of doing corrections on the canvas.

Painting a good friend is really a challenge. I think it is the pressure to get really the person one knows – but damn, its fun to try 
So thanks a lot to Norma for posing last week in the ongoing Portrait Month in the Gallery de Stoker. And the good news: more friend-portraits are upcoming. If anyone else wants to, let me know.

I’ve posted a wip earlier. Here is the final one of Lake.
The foreground works better now with the extended sheet. I also had a more detailed face at some point – but overpainted it to a simpler version.

This is the final version of a work in progress I posted before. Visitors of the exhibition have seen the image already. Although I must admit, since I was in a hurry I accidentally hung it up the wrong way 
Both versions work – but I do like this angle the most.

Has been a while that I posted a digital artwork. This one I tweaked recently – it was originally thought for a poster of a game where you can control water. The character design is by Ramon Contini, which you can find (along other cool stuff) on his website.
For this one I have one more session. That will be a lot of work to tackle still – I only consider the central body part to be final.
I painted the model in a very different position than she is actually sitting, mixing several perspectives into one – which has me moving around with my easel a lot.
It is unfortunate that I’m limited to the canvas size, it restricts me in my composition. More space at the bottom would have been nicer. Maybe I should start painting on unstretched canvas – it’s a bit less convenient though. I’m scared of stretching cutting and priming (or just too lazy).
Anyways I will still have to figure out how to solve the foreground composition – probably will expand the white sheet to the bottom of the canvas. I could work on that even after the coming session. I’ll update after I’m done of course. Comments and critique are welcome.

I showed the WIP earlier – here is the finished version. The digital version doesn’t really show that I used gold paint in some patterns, was a lot of fun.
