Neat’lil Game: Oshiyoseru

Posted on June 29, 2011 by Thomas | Games | Tags: , , |

The art posts took a bit over – but games still have a big part of my heart! I had some time to play some again, and here’s a little gem I came across: A free flash game called Oshiyoseru. It is super simple, but with interesting game design: It is a mix of RPG with a shooter – playable in 3 minute chunks.

You can download it here if you click on the “download now” button. Unzip the file called “Gold” and enjoy!

There are several Japanese designers that publish little innovative games for free. And they’re usually very witty – maybe I’ll link up more later. There are other neat games of this specific guy (Nametake) at his page “Kogane-Games“.

The game is Japanese – and I thought figuring the mechanics out was half the fun. But if you feel lazy, I’ve put a translation of Oshiyoseru (オシヨセル – means something like “enemies rushing in”) here…. makes me think though it would be cool to make a game in “alien language” and let the player figure it out as part of the gameplay.

Controls:
Use the arrows and WSAD for movement and the mouse for aiming. If you click you get to a level-up menu.

Here are the level categories that you can choose:

  1. Bullet Interval
  2. Bullet Amount
  3. Level rises faster
  4. Score rises faster
  5. Items appear
  6. Less Enemies (Something like that – maybe they’re just slower. The word says “critical rising” so maybe)
  7. Auto-Repair
  8. Radius of Item-Pickup

The items/goodies:

  • Red N: Rises bullet amount
  • Green I: Rises bullet speed
  • Green R: Repairs the ship
  • Blue S: Shield

The trophies/achievements:
There are three rows. If you get all in bronze/silver/gold you get 2/4/6 level points at start-up.
The first row starts with: Amount of chain, then High-Score and highest Skill-Level. About the next two items I’m not sure, probably time survived – it wasn’t hard to get though. Next is the unspent Skill-Points trophy. The following 8 are all level-up categories – max them out to get gold. And the last row starts with four trophies for enemies-destroyed by color. The last three are about the trophies themselves – get them all in bronze for the first … and so on.

Enjoy.

Aquarellist Collective Exhibition – Part II

Posted on June 26, 2011 by Thomas | Street Portraits | Tags: , , , |

Recently I posted images of the Aquarellist exhibition in Beek en Donk. This is part two – the following day, with more models to paint. Outside I had an additional setup with my works. I’ll let the pictures do the talking.

Window Display in Amsterdam – The Last Weeks

Posted on June 17, 2011 by Thomas | My Exhibitions | Tags: , , |
Yoga Lab Art display Amsterdam - Flattr button

The flattr button is also still there. I've got a few donations as you can see on the counter below. Thanks all, much appreciated.

The time has been a bit extended on the Yoga-Lab art display. Extended in time: Two weeks remaining now. And extended in scope: Already two months ago I’ve added an additional window.

Which I didn’t show here yet – time to catch up. It is a roughly 1.5 meter deep space with a big window in front. I tried to use the depth – by hanging the artworks in several layers. I used all white frames and bright images, so it works well with the white wall. Turned out nice if I may say so myself.

The other window had some new images the last weeks – following is a photo of it. And I switched them again, so currently it is all landscapes showing there. One big painting I’m working on at the moment might turn up there if I get done in time.

If anyone is interested in using the space in the future (located next to a metro exit at Nieuwmarkt), you can contact the Yoga-Lab.

“Faust in Paris” Costume Designs – Part I

Posted on June 14, 2011 by Thomas | Costumes,Drawings | Tags: , , , , , |

At the beginning of the year I made some costume designs for theater and film. Here are some for the play “Faust in Paris” – a twist on the good ol’ Faust story. The performance was supposed to be shown in Paris, I’ll try to get some information on how far that is, would be cool to see photos of the actual costumes.

Really fun job, interesting differences to doing fantasy costumes for games. A little more on that in the next part.

Faust in Paris - "Mephisto" in a bishops dress

First one of the cool guys: "Mephisto" in a bishop's dress

Faust in Paris - Gretchen Version

A farmers girl, and lead character - a "Gretchen" version who's fate does not seem to mean it all that well.

Faust in Paris - danceress in red dress

Beware those ladies in red dresses.

Faust in Paris - Various Male costume designs

Various costume designs for the unusual mix of characters in the piece.

Aquarellist Collective Exhibition – Part I

Busy last month: Indie game presentation, Vacation in Vienna, first lecture at the NHL University and the exhibition in the Gallery Berkendijke in Beek en Donk. The last one alone will make for three updates here, so I’ll start with that. The exhibition was organized by the “Aquarellist Collective” – a group of water color artists.

The location was beautiful – a proper farm-house with lots of animals around. I wish I would have taken more pictures. And inside was the gallery, which was really nicely arranged. The lighting was excellent – rivaling museums.

Images by the other artists.

Since my camera was nearly empty I also didn't take more pictures of the other art. It was all high quality. Lots of tricks to steal from these :) .

And another one of mine

And another one of mine.

The hospitality of the owners and other artists was amazing. Thanks again. Was great meeting all the artists there – talking about techniques and finds. I learned a lot in those two weekends.

Here the links to all the artists – the organizers were:

And here is the list of the other participants alphabetically:

I had my own little showing outside – and I made portraits of visitors. A lot – so more on that in the upcoming two postings.

The first model. Thanks.
